My experience with Dr Smith and the Hip and Knee clinic in Nanaimo has been phenomenal! His knowledge, demeanour, skill, and compassion was so needed with my case after suffering an MVA 5 years ago. He wasn’t quick to jump the gun but laid everything out for me to understand about my circumstances, my options, and plan going forward. He also listened to my concerns and the level of pain I was experiencing. I received a Total Hip Replacement just before Christmas and the staples removed 10 days later. The incision care with staples was so clean with a new honeycomb dressing and peeled off with ease. The incision now is healing beautifully. He definitely has the skill and artistry to create a thin scar. He reviewed the results of my hip (dissection) and carefully went through all the findings since the MVA was the instigator, but genetics could’ve played an antagonistic roll, as well. Luckily, I had already ruled out any autoimmune deficiencies over a decade before with my lumbar back pain through a rheumatologist and referral to UBC as a secondary opinion with the same outcome. I recommend Dr Smith for your upcoming orthopaedic case, surgery, and recovery. Our healthcare system is overwhelmed right now and yet, everyone I was referred to by Smith, cared for under Smith, and followed up by Smith was exceptional. It’s extremely important to do the pre surgical requirements given to you 6-8 weeks prior to your surgery including home preparation, exercises, and support. That is your responsibility and you will not regret being prepared to ease your recovery and rehab. And Brooke, she has A LOT coming at her with people booking appointments and Covid protocols. People in pain can be miserable and project their frustrations and fears onto others. People are demanding and refuse to abide by protocols and rules which makes her day challenging. Give her some GRACE because she not only deserves it, but she is the reason you are getting your bookings and why things run so smoothly. Put the shoe on the other foot. Brooke is your advocate not your enemy. Be kind and humble to her, so you get the best experience this office has to give and you won’t be disappointed. A+++

Wonderful and attentive. Surgically above any others. Thorough and thoughtful and research all that is required before operating. He treated my father and I shall always be grateful that it was him.
